Presentation of he study “Europe - a New Vector for Kyrgyz Migrants in Russia”
On October 23, 2024, Roundtable was held to present the study “Europe - a New Vector for Kyrgyz Migrants in Russia”, conducted by the Public Foundation “Insan-Leylek” in cooperation with the Representative Office of the Friedrich Ebert Foundation in Kyrgyzstan.
The event was attended by members of the Jogorku Kenesh, representatives of the Ministry of Labor, diplomats from European countries, as well as representatives of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and other international organizations.
The issue of diversity in labor flows is becoming particularly relevant for Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries. European countries are increasingly attracting the attention of migrants as new promising destinations. Kyrgyzstan is actively opening access to European labor markets for its citizens, using the capabilities of diplomatic missions and the private sector.
As part of the roundtable discussion, a short film that depicted the life of a Kyrgyz migrant in Europe was shown. Following the presentation of the research outcomes, a general discussion was held, during which participants discussed the relevance and importance of migration issues for Kyrgyzstan.
The study was conducted from March to August 2024 and focused on analyzing the potential of European countries as new migration destinations for Kyrgyz labor migrants traditionally oriented towards the Russian labor market.
